Join our Peer Support Volunteer Workshops

Learn everything you need to know to become a TASC Peer Support Volunteer and offer colleagues support in their time of need, on one of our training workshops.

What is a Peer Support Volunteer?

A Peer Support Volunteer is a currently serving or retired member of the ambulance community who wants to support the health and wellbeing of their colleagues. Using their own experience where appropriate, Peer Support Volunteers offer a listening ear, empathy and support to colleagues within the ambulance service.

To become a TASC Peer Support Volunteer, an individual must first be registered as a TASC volunteer and attend a one-day training workshop where specialist training will be provided.

Workshop summary

As well as exploring TASC’s full range of support services, you will hear from experts in counselling, trauma, bereavement, suicide and debt advice. In addition, our experts will provide you with tips and advice on managing your own health and wellbeing.

The training involves lots of interaction and activities and there will also be opportunity for group discussions.

What’s covered in the workshop

The workshop covers a range of subjects including:

  • What is peer support?
  • TASC’s services and how to access support
  • How to spot the signs of poor mental health, trauma and PTSD
  • The effects of bereavement
  • The signs of suicidal thoughts and how to handle the aftermath when someone takes their own life
